Michigan Health System Alerts Patients to Personal Information Breach

According to the Detroit Free Press, Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System is notifying patients that an employee’s laptop computer containing personal patient information was stolen from an unlocked urology office. The theft occurred on September 24. 

The laptop contained patient information related to prostate services from 1997 through 2008. The computer was password protected, but contained patient information including:

  • names
  • medical record numbers
  • dates of birth
  • mailing and email addresses
  • telephone numbers
  • treatments
  • doctors visits

Patients’ medical records, social security and health insurance numbers were not on the laptop.
